Bread and Circuses ,Welcome To Kenya.
This axiom comes alive with the recent happenings’ unfolding in Kenya. It has become a country full of circuses and the clowns are quite entertaining I must admit. In the fullness of the axiom the state officials are set to receive Salary increments as from the month of July 2024,as if that is not enough about 500 tones of Fertilizer donated by Russia has disappeared in the sea and Oh! 100,000 teachers will not be receiving their salaries due to The Finance Bill 2024 not being passed.
A sigh of relief is needed but where is that breathing space, wake up early to hustle for the government and paying international debt, of which, nobody knows exactly how much is being owned. On the Tuesday of 2nd July 2024, some MPs’ are allegedly said to have hired goons to destroy property, a ploy set to disorient the peaceful protests that have been ongoing. The ploy succeeded , clowns have their way in the circus after all they control the plays.
Leaderless and tribeless has been the slogan of the Gen Z protests, paradoxically, information of subsequent events of dates and where to meet has been circulating through posters, and you are left wondering who are these individuals who sat down and drafted a whole flow of events and put it out there? Making it even interesting in this said circus, the Gen Z members started turning against each other ,accusing them of being approached and “bought”.
Despite 39 young individuals being killed and others injured , money amounting to approximately 20 million Kenya shilling was collected through the Mchanga platform, meant to cater for bills and the families, on the other hand the county governments said to have waived the bills of these individuals, but still a breakdown of payment to these hospitals is being posted on x formerly twitter showing payments. Bread and circuses it is!
Question is what is the way forward? Maybe things might change or remain the same after all it is said “the more things change the more they remain the same.” Welcome to Kenya the Home of Humanity, our political issues should not deter you from visiting our land, we are good people just that accountability, great leadership and integrity form our weaknesses cutting across all generations. We aim to please though!
